The supplements that could change your life: ACNE addition

I WISH I had known about these supplements when I first started getting acne, it would have saved me so much time and money 😅. If you struggle with acne, you’re not alone - I know from first-hand experience how difficult it is and how much it affects your capacity to show up as your most confident boss-babe self!

So let’s dive straight into them - 3 supplements which can be game-changers in your acne journey!!

1. Indole-3-carbinol – naturally found in raw/lightly cooked cruciferous vegetables, this supplement is incredible for supporting estrogen clearance to reduce sebum production and inflammation in the skin.  For those that cannot tolerate cruciferous veggies (e.g. broccoli, kale & cauliflower) due to food sensitivities or a gut condition called SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth), consuming in supplement form allows you to get the same benefit without the bloating and tummy discomfort, whilst we are in the process of fixing your gut. Yey! In addition, for those with estrogen dominance (look for symptoms such as PMS, heavy painful periods, irregular periods & breast tenderness) this product can provide the additional support that your liver needs to clear the excess estrogen.

2. Inositol – particularly beneficial if your acne is driven by PCOS and/or high androgen levels like testosterone, Inositol helps to lower these levels and also helps to balance your blood sugar levels. Alongside a blood sugar balancing diet, this supplement provides incredible support in reducing sebum production to reduce the severity of acne.

3. Turmeric – this is my personal favourite! Turmeric upregulates phase 2 of liver detoxification, which is crucial for clearing excess hormones such as cortisol and estrogen. It’s also incredibly anti-inflammatory, so if your acne looks particularly red and angry, then turmeric could be a fantastic supplement to add into your regime.

And remember you don’t have to go through this alone. Getting the dose and form right by working with a naturopath will save you the trial and error, and get your acne under control at a much faster rate. For my clients with hormonal acne, we always get hormone testing completed prior to bringing in targeted supplements, so I know which products to prescribe, the dose required for results and how long to treat for.
